  • What is Zazen? How does it work?

Zazen literally translates to "sitting meditation" in Japanese. It is a Zen Buddhist meditation discipline and way of life. Understanding the nature of existence is at the heart of Zazen. Zazen is a technique that involves sitting quietly while trying to stop thinking critically. This approach allows thoughts, words, pictures, and other concepts to pass by without being distracted by them.

Zazen meditation is traditionally done in a communal meditation space known as the zendo. A Zazen practitioner must bow before the seat and his fellow practitioners at the start and completion of the Japanese meditation process. Zazen may occasionally be followed by kinhin or walking meditation.
